Too Awesome

Was browsing through random YouTube videos today (when I should actually have been studying) and came across the trailer for Mass Effect 2:

It looks so good, it could be a movie. Damn, they SHOULD make a movie! Too awesome. Makes me want to play it again (if not for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, I probably would). (On a side note, I would kill for a voice as deep as the alien's at 0:50 :D)

The song struck me, and I found another link on the right hand side... Discovered it was composed by Two Steps From Hell, a group Jaryl recommended to me a few months back. Here's the extended version of the song:

Too awesome.

The only things capable of giving me grief are the people around me.

I shouldn't feel resentful, jealous, neglected or unwanted, but at times I cannot help but do.

I need to wash my hands of these emotions weighing me down.

I don't need anyone.

I was feeling extremely bored and experiencing incredible inertia for mugging Pathology so I decided to have some fun by looking for iPod quizzes online to do (instead of posting another emo song on my blog to reflect what I feel).

The rules of the game are simple: Use your iTunes or iPod and put the music on shuffle and press play, use the song title that appears for each question (as you press forward for each questions) to answer that particular question. No cheating to change your answer though! You can get some interesting answers at times...

1) How am I feeling today?
You're Beautiful - James Blunt

2) Where will I get married?
Unnatural Selection - Muse (... arranged marriage ftw)

3) What is my best friend’s theme song?
Pretty Vacant - Sex Pistols (ooooh SJ/Jon Teo are not gonna like this)

4) What is/was high school like?
Sho Nuff - Fatboy Slim

5) What is the best thing about me?
Closer To Insomnia - Robin Skouteris

6)How is today going to be?
A Little Push - Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard (ya need that push to get started on mugging)

7) What is in store for this weekend?
I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire - The Inkspots

8) What song describes my parents?
Love's Divine - Seal

9) How is my life going?
Rhapsody On A Theme Of Paganini - Maksim Mrvica

10) What song will they play at my funeral?
Tadarida - Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard

11) How does the world see me?
The Pretender - Foo Fighters

12) What do my friends really think of me?
The Core - Babamars

13) Do people secretly lust after me?
Mama - My Chemical Romance (ERRRRRRRRRR)

14) How can I make myself happy?
Cure For The Itch - Linkin Park (scratch myself :D)

15) What should I do with my life?
L'Espirit D'Escalier - Jet

16) Will I ever have children?
Cold Hard Bitch - Jet

17) What is some good advice?
The Secret Labs - Jack Wall & Sam Hulick

18) What do I think my current theme song is?
Jesus Walks - Kanye West (AWESOME)

19) What does everyone else think my current theme song is?
Who Did You Think I Was - John Mayer

20) What type of men/women do you like?
Make You Feel Better - Red Hot Chili Peppers

21) Will you get married?
Universally Speaking - Red Hot Chili Peppers

22) What should I do with my love life?
Keep Your Hands Off My Girl - Good Charlotte (be very possessive)

24) Where will you live?
Escape - Muse (MIGRATION)

25) What will your dying words be?
In Your Atmosphere - John Mayer

26) How’s your day going so far?
Can't Catch Tomorrow (Good Shoes Won't Save You This Time) - lostprophets

27) How’s your love life?
My Own Worst Enemy - Stereophonics (as usual)

Sing

This song didn't strike me as incredibly fantastic the first time I heard it, but the more I listened the more I grew to love it, and although the lyrics seem to be rather simplistic, the message they convey isn't...

"Sing" by My Chemical Romance

Sing it out
Boy you've got to see what tomorrow brings
Sing it out
Girl you've got to be what tomorrow needs
For every time that they want to count you out
Use your voice every single time you open up your mouth

Sing it for the boys, sing it for the girls
Every time that you lose it sing it for the world
Sing it from the heart
Sing it till you're nuts
Sing it out for the ones that'll hate your guts
Sing it for the deaf
Sing it for the blind
Sing about everyone that you left behind
Sing it for the world, sing it for the world

Sing it out
Boy they're gonna sell what tomorrow means
Sing it out
Girl they're gonna kill what tomorrow brings
You've got to, make a choice if the music drowns you out
Raise your voice every single time they try and shut your mouth

Sing it for the boys, sing it for the girls
Every time that you lose it sing it for the world
Sing it from the heart
Sing it till you're nuts
Sing it out for the ones that'll hate your guts
Sing it for the deaf
Sing it for the blind
Sing about everyone that you left behind
Sing it for the world, sing it for the world

Cleaned up, corporation progress
Dying in the process
Children that can talk about it
Living on the railways
People moving sideways
Sell it till your last days
Buy yourself the motivation
Generation nothing,
Nothing but a dead scene
Product of a white dream
I am not the singer that you wanted, but a dancer
I refuse to answer, talk about the past, sir
Wrote it for the ones that want to get away.

Keep running

Sing it for the boys, sing it for the girls
Every time that you lose it sing it for the world
Sing it from the heart
Sing it till you're nuts
Sing it out for the ones that'll hate your guts
Sing it for the deaf
Sing it for the blind
Sing about everyone that you left behind
Sing it for the world, sing it for the world

We've got to see what tomorrow brings
Sing it for the world
Sing it for the world
Yeah, you've got to be what tomorrow needs
Sing it for the world
Sing it for the world

Baba Yetu (The Lord's Prayer)

Christopher Tin has made history by being the composer of gaming's first nomination in the Grammy Awards in the category of "Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists" for his song "Baba Yetu" from Sid Meier's Civilization IV.

When I first listened to the piece from GamesRadar.com I thought it was good, but nothing spectacular (maybe because it was a live performance where the choir was not as strong as in the original piece). Then I looked for the video on YouTube and found the original intro to Civilization IV and was enraptured by it. Then I found a translated version of it and discovered it was the Lord's Prayer in Swahili.

Now it gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it... Magical.

Baba Yetu - by Christopher Tin

Baba yetu, yetu uliye (Our Father Jesus who art)
Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina! (in Heaven. Amen!)
Baba yetu, yetu, uliye (Our Father Jesus who art)
Jina lako litukuzwe. (Hallowed be thy name.)

Baba yetu, yetu uliye (Our Father Jesus who art)
Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina! (in Heaven. Amen!)
Baba yetu, yetu, uliye (Our Father Jesus who art)
Jina lako litukuzwe. (Hallowed be thy name.)

Utupe leo chakula chetu (Give us this day our daily bread)
Tunachohitaji utusamehe (Forgive us of)
Makosa yetu, hey (Our trespasses)
Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe (As we forgive others)
Waliotukosea usitutie (Who tresspass against us)
Katika majaribu, lakini (Lead us not into temptation, but)
Utuokoe, na yule, milelea milele (Deliver us from Evil, and you are forever and ever!)

Baba yetu, yetu uliye (Our Father Jesus who art)
Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina! (in Heaven. Amen!)
Baba yetu, yetu, uliye (Our Father Jesus who art)
Jina lako litukuzwe. (Hallowed be thy name.)

Baba yetu, yetu uliye (Our Father Jesus who art)
Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina! (in Heaven. Amen!)
Baba yetu, yetu, uliye (Our Father Jesus who art)
Jina lako litukuzwe. (Hallowed be thy name.)

Ufalme wako ufike utakalo (Your kingdom come, your will be done)
Lifanyike duniani kama mbinguni. [Amina] (On Earth as it is in Heaven. [Amen])

Baba yetu, yetu uliye (Our Father Jesus who art)
Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina! (in Heaven. Amen!)
Baba yetu, yetu, uliye (Our Father Jesus who art)
Jina lako litukuzwe. (Hallowed be thy name.)

Baba yetu, yetu uliye (Our Father Jesus who art)
Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina! (in Heaven. Amen!)
Baba yetu, yetu, uliye (Our Father Jesus who art)
Jina lako litukuzwe. (Hallowed be thy name.)

Utupe leo chakula chetu (Give us this day our daily bread)
Tunachohitaji utusamehe (Forgive us of)
Makosa yetu, hey (Our trespasses)
Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe (As we forgive others)
Waliotukosea usitutie (Who tresspass against us)
Katika majaribu, lakini (Lead us not into temptation, but)
Utuokoe, na yule, simama mwehu (Deliver us from Evil, until you'll wake the dead)

Baba yetu, yetu, uliye (Our Father Jesus who art...)
Jina lako litukuzwe. (Hallowed be thy name.)
Baba yetu, yetu, uliye (Our Father Jesus who art...)
Jina lako litukuzwe. (Hallowed be thy name.)

There's some confusion over the lyrics and the translation, but you get the general idea. Next a cappella project!

=\

What a lousy morning.

I think it really stinks to have to go down for rehearsals just to sing one song and then having to sit through the whole performance over and over again cos you have to play the tambourine for just a few other songs, spending night after night in school for the performance, not doing work or relaxing at home after long hours at the hospital, only to have your MIC NOT SWITCHED ON FOR THE ACTUAL PERFORMANCE ITSELF.

Then practice so much for what. Sigh.

Straight after playhouse this taxi driver decided it would be fun to reverse into my car for kicks. I stupidly let him go without taking details cos I thought it looked pretty harmless, only to return home for my dad to say that the front bumper is cracked and now we can't do anything cos I don't have any details. From now on I'm taking photos galore if any other idiot crashes into me.

Damn lousy morning. It sucks to have your fate controlled by other people (i.e. the sound engineers and the bloody taxi driver). I can only pray that God has some plan for this.

On the bright side, at least playhouse is over now and I didn't lose my temper at the taxi driver and had to calm him down as well cos he was so defensive ("I didn't reverse it was the handbrake"). Hai.

Lesson learnt, I hope.

The 5 Stages Of Mugging

The 5 Stages Of Mugging (or Examination Preparation) is something I came up with years ago when I was feeling really boliao and thinking about the House season 2 episode about the 5 stages of death... Thought that since Paeds and Patho exams are coming up it'd be appropriate to put this up again.

The 5 Stages Of Mugging (or Examination Preparation)

1. Enthusiasm
It's true, we all start out thinking that we're gonna be fired up and going full speed ahead till the examinations come... The gathering and filing of notes, the anticipation of what we're gonna do the next day, it's almost... Exhilarating. Everyone starts off their mugging journey with this enthusiasm in them.

2. Burnout
But soon you feel discouraged as day after day goes by and you realize that you're not mugging as fast as you planned your schedule out to be. Every day seems to get shorter and shorter and time becomes your enemy as you attempt to get your assigned mugging for the day done.

3. Slacking
Speaks for itself... Pretty soon you just give up altogether.

4. Panic
Then as exams inch every closer, you realize that you've done so LITTLE! Panic sets in and may spur you on to a bit of mugging.

5. Resignation
Then there comes a point in time where you feel that whatever you do, you're gonna fail anyway, so you might as well just accept it. The feeling of resignation sets in.

So those are the 5 stages of mugging! The key is to get through the 5 stages as fast as possible so that the cycle can be repeated. Then remain on the first stage as long as you can. Alternatively, after the 5th stage you can get to a systematic method of mugging. That'll be like... Reincarnation. Haha.
