Photography
On 17/1/2008, I participated in a Canon photography workshop to brush up my basics and touch up some skills in photography.
The workshop was quite fun, with Jino (our instructor) clearing up some concepts about basics for me and reinforcing what I already know... All in all, it was a good experience. Ultimately it's experimenting that will improve myself as a photographer, because as Jon Teo says, all these kinds of courses just teach you the basics of DSLR photography, and don't really go into the more advanced stuff, which is what I want to learn. So I guess I'll have to experiment and play more with my camera.
Here are some pictures of that day:

I was playing with the aperture (Depth of Field) for this one. I quite like this picture... That's Perry in the background.

Another one. Notice how the aperture makes it possible to just focus on the subject that you want specifically.
I koped this idea from Perry. Hahaha :P The half-shade half light thingy. I was trying to use the Rule of Thirds, but I think I only succeeded in adding a distraction into the picture (see the people at the top). Oh well. Skill not there yet.
The next day I went to the Esplanade with Jon Teo to take pics for fun... And also to see my best friend whom I haven't seen for such a long time. Hahaha. Just like the old days, we would go to random places and just take shots for fun. This time we went to the Esplanade to take day shots instead of night ones.
I thought this was quite a nice pic... The sunlight reflecting off the building. I under-exposed this shot on purpose to bring out the clouds in the sky as well as to make the building look metallic.
I thought this shot was quite interesting... In the perspective of the worker. Notice the Singapore flag flying in the background! Whee... I only feel patriotic when I'm not in the army. Hahaha!

I was feeling super boliao waiting for Jon Teo to capture his shot, so I just took this of him for fun. Hahaha! I think it's pretty interesting, I angled it such that the lamp post and its shadow will cover the diagonal.

Those are fake flowers haha... Jon Teo and I chanced upon this... Rag-like preparation while walking toward the Esplanade... Don't know what they are for though... Once again playing with the DoF with the aperture.

I like the colour of the sky on this one. Almost perfect.

Haha we decided to take a break and went to Max Brenner where Jon Teo bought a Suckao (or so it's called)... It's almost like a fondue kind of thing... Too bad the flame is such a distraction and too bad I didn't manage to get some milk pouring out of the jug when I took the shot... Haha.

I ordered this... Some chocolate banana split latte thingy. Hahaha... It wasn't too bad, but super expensive la. I thought the cup was very cute :P Hahaz

This was one the rooftop terrace of the Esplanade... I tried to use the framing technique, taking the ferris wheel. I think this turned out quite all right.

This shot is nicer in black and white than in colour... Cos the pink flowers at the bottom are very distracting. The only bad thing about this pic is the rotten rope at the tree! ARGH.
Look! The Esplanade can change colour! Hahaha... Nah I was just playing with the white balance for this one... I used the white balance for incandescent light, giving the picture a blue tinge.

You can't imagine how LOW I had to go for this one. Hahaha... I was practically lying down on the floor. In the end I took this without looking through the viewfinder. That's another technique I want to perfect. I like this pic, except for the tube running below the rim of the basin.

After the photography at the Esplanade, I had a meeting with the Resonance Production Committee for Vocal Obsessions III at Raffles City. Sumi was 15 minutes late, so Jia En and I were just sitting at the fountain crapping stuff haha... I was feeling super boliao so I took several shots of the fountain. I quite like this one, see the difference in the water at the bottom and at the top.
That's pretty much about it! Hahaha... I hope Pearlly doesn't criticize my photos until like so cui like that... Then my morale will be uber low. Hahaha... Have mercy!
The cloud has (somewhat) lifted.
