Sleep

My Chemical Romance is coming down to Singapore! Who wants to go watch their concert with me!!! Hahaha.

After seeing the competition on MTV for free tickets to see the concert, I realized that I had no idea what the band members' names were. (the question was "name the lead singer for 'My Chemical Romance'" or something like that) Oh well. Does that make me any less a fan? I like to think not. I like bands cos of their music and lyrics and the ideas and expression they try to put across... Not for the people.

Nevertheless:

My Chemical Romance
Gerard Way - Vocals
Ray Toro - Lead guitar, Vocals
Frank Iero - Rhythm guitar, Vocals
Mikey Way - Bass guitar
Bob Bryar - Drums, Percussion

My favourite song from My Chemical Romance is Sleep, off their 3rd album, The Black Parade. Even if you don't really listen to this kind of music or don't listen to whatever I post on my blog anyway, hear this for a while. It's... Very nice.

Sleep by My Chemical Romance

[Voice recording rewinds and plays certain parts, speeds up and slows down:]

"...Like last night, they are not like tremors, they are worse than tremors, they are these terrors. And it's like, it feels like as if somebody was gripping my throat and squeezing and..."

Some say, now suffer all the children
And walk away a savior
Or a madman and polluted
From gutter institutions
Don't you breathe for me
Undeserving of your sympathy
Cause there ain't no way that I'm sorry for what I did

And through it all
How could you cry for me?
'Cause I don't feel bad about it
So shut your eyes,
Kiss me goodbye,
And sleep
Just sleep

The hardest part is letting go of your dreams

A drink for the horror that I'm in
For the good guys, and the bad guys
For the monsters that I've been
Three cheers for tyranny
Unapologetic apathy
'Cause there ain't no way that I'm coming back again.

And through it all
How could you cry for me?
'Cause I don't feel bad about it
So shut your eyes
Kiss me goodbye
And sleep
Just sleep

The hardest part's the awful things that I've seen

[Voice recording:]
"...Sometimes I see flames. And sometimes I see people that I love dying and... it's always..."

Just sleep
Just sleep
Just sleep
Just sleep
Just sleep
Just sleep

[Screaming:]
Wake up!

[Voice recording:]
"And I can't... I can't ever wake up."

Dumb & Dumber

Sigh... My retention nowadays isn't very good. I'm not remembering stuff like I should. I mean, I can sit through a whole lecture and understand everything the lecturer says, but when you ask me a question pertaining to the lecture I go blank. Like everything I just learned has been flushed out my brain.

Even now when I study something, I take forever just to remember a simple point or stuff like... What are the relations to whatever organ or whatever structure... As a result I study super slowly.

Somehow I can't pinpoint the reason for this... It's very frustrating... Like last time I never used to have this problem... Now I'm suffering bouts of amnesia... It sucks. Makes me look and feel stupid. (Okay, not like I'm very smart to begin with) But you get the idea.

It's either a lack of sleep, or the army. Hahaha. If it's the army then it's definitely irreversible already. Help!

Given Up

Given Up by Linkin Park

Wake in a sweat again
Another day's been laid to waste
In my disgrace

Stuck in my head again
Feels like I'll never leave this place
There's no escape

I'm my own worst enemy

I've given up
I'm sick of feeling
Is there nothing you can say
Take this all away
I'm suffocating
Tell me what the f*** is wrong with me!

I don't know what to take
Thought I was focused but I'm scared
I'm not prepared

I hyperventilate
Looking for help somehow somewhere
And no one cares

I'm my own worst enemy

I've given up
I'm sick of feeling
Is there nothing you can say
Take this all away
I'm suffocating
Tell me what the f*** is wrong with me!

God!

Put me out of my misery
Put me out of my misery
Put me out of my
Put me out of my f***ing misery!

I've given up
I'm sick of feeling
Is there nothing you can say
Take this all away
I'm suffocating
Tell me what the f*** is wrong with me!

I wish I could sing this.

Zen

The "Zen" state is a state coined by the JONg counsellors, where you are basically in a state where you are your own person, and you do not care about the actions and doings or what you may feel for, mainly, the opposite sex. Basically, you are detached and aloof.

The "Zen" state is difficult to attain, and for some, impossible. But the "Zen" state is where your mind is at its clearest, where for once you do not expect anything from anyone, and do not misinterpret the actions of others. You do not hope for anything, you do not try to read his/her actions and how they treat you. Best of all is, you are unaffected by jealousy.

Depending on your situation, the "Zen" state may be a good or bad thing for you. Choosing to remain in this state will render you invulnerability to any bad "qi" or karma, but may deny you happiness and joy. Remaining in the "Zen" state will bring you to a state of neutrality.

While in the "Zen" state it is important not to give in to temptations that come your way every now and then, or what comes after will be devastating; because what is presented to you is usually, mostly a lie, blurred and distorted by what you want to see. And you see only what you want to see, not what is reality. By pulling yourself out of the "Zen" state in this manner, it will take several weeks, months of healing, to resume the "Zen" state.

On a side note, I seriously do wish people would shut the hell up during lectures... The poor lecturer is in front trying to teach us how to be doctors man... You don't have to talk among yourselves and make snide comments or make fun of the lecturer during his lesson! It's just plain rude. I mean, I can even hear super clearly the conversations of some people from the other end of the lecture room lah! It's always the same bunch of people... If you're gonna disrupt the lesson like that and break the attention of the other students, maybe you shouldn't attend the lectures at all, since you obviously know the topic so well that you don't need to pay attention to the lecturer. Show some respect, man!

The 5 Stages Of Mugging

The 5 Stages Of Mugging (or Examination Preparation) is something I came up with when I was feeling really boliao and thinking about the House season 2 episode about the 5 stages of death...

The 5 Stages Of Mugging (or Examination Preparation)

1. Enthusiasm
It's true, we all start out thinking that we're gonna be fired up and going full speed ahead till the examinations come... The gathering and filing of notes, the anticipation of what we're gonna do the next day, it's almost... Exhilarating. Everyone starts off their mugging journey with this enthusiasm in them.

2. Burnout
But soon you feel discouraged as day after day goes by and you realize that you're not mugging as fast as you planned your schedule out to be. Every day seems to get shorter and shorter and time becomes your enemy as you attempt to get your assigned mugging for the day done.

3. Slacking
Speaks for itself... Pretty soon you just give up altogether.

4. Panic
Then as exams inch every closer, you realize that you've done so LITTLE! Panic sets in and may spur you on to a bit of mugging.

5. Resignation
Then there comes a point in time where you feel that whatever you do, you're gonna fail anyway, so you might as well just accept it. The feeling of resignation sets in.

So those are the 5 stages of mugging! The key is to get through the 5 stages as fast as possible so that the cycle can be repeated... Then remain on the first stage as long as you can. Alternatively, after the 5th stage you can get to a systematic method of mugging. That'll be like... Reincarnation. Hahahaha...

On a side note... I think the whole production is being turned into a farce. Turning that role into what it is not is pretty unfair to the rest of us, I think. I don't see how a character who only appears in one scene should be placed as above-importance than others who appear in dozens more. He's a great actor and should probably deserve a more major role, so GIVE IT to him! Instead of treating the minor role as if it's a major one and ostracizing the rest of us. Sometimes I wonder whether it's worth it all... Not being given any direction at all... I mean, it's my first time doing this kind of thing man... I don't know if what I'm doing is right, or whether he just can't be bothered. Somehow I get the feeling it's the latter. But oh well... Maybe I'm just being oversensitive again. Still, I made a commitment, and I shall stick with it, no matter how sucky I may feel. Rehearsals are rather fun though!

Will be blogging about World Diabetes Day soon I hope... If I can get pics from Yee Keow.

Poetry In Motion

Thought I would come online to blog since I'm waiting for my Avatar: The Last Airbender video to load =p... Okay don't kill me for sleeping so late! =\

Earlier this week Liverpool made history once again (like they have done many times before)... Winning by the biggest goal margin in Champions League History. Liverpool 8-0 Besiktas. For 90 minutes, Liverpool showed that they were capable of passing like true greats, of totally bamboozling defences without so much as revealing a crack in their armour. On that night, they truly gave meaning to the phrases "attack is the best form of defence", and "poetry in motion". As I'm still upset over the Liverpool website not replying me about volunteering to write match reviews for them (and also cos I'm too tired... it's almost 3 am), I will just give the poor chaps who missed the match a summary of the goals that happened. =)

GOALS
19th minute: Peter Crouch capitalizes on a ricochet off an opposing defender to go clean through on goal. His first shot is saved but his second is sweet and slides under the keeper's body.

32nd minute: Riise takes a very quick throw as Besiktas are still arguing with the referee that the throw really should be theirs; Voronin takes the ball down the left, looks up, and delivers a sweet cross to Benayoun. Benayoun takes one touch to control it, and the second is a sweet half volley into the bottom corner of the net. 2-0.

52nd minute: Riise tries a smashing drive that is too hot for the keeper to handle, and he spills the shot straight to Benayoun. Benayoun makes a difficult finish look ridiculously easy as he scores his second. 3-0.

56th minute: Gerrard's turn to attempt a smashing drive at goal, this time from a free kick. The keeper can't seem to get hold of this one again and once more Benayoun is on hand to tuck it home for his hat-trick. 4-0!

69th minute: Steven Gerrard launches this attack with a brilliant one-two with Voronin. Voronin, receiving the ball from Gerrard, does a Cryuff flick to supply Gerrard with the return ball. The skipper smashes his shot against a defender who deflects it into the goal. 5-0 and we want more!

78th minute: A wonderful cross pass reminiscent of Xabi Alonso, but coming from Javier Mascherano, reaches Benayoun, who is on the right in the penalty box. He squares his ball to Babel who, right in front of goal, does an audacious flick with his backheel to divert the ball past the keeper. Wonderful goal and we're 6-0 up!

81st minute: Crouch and a Besiktas defender both battle for but miss the aerial ball, and this bounces loose to another Besiktas defender who is looking to clear it. He didn't anticipate Babel's speed though and he's right next to the defender in a flash. Toroman (the defender) clears it into Babel's back and it loops over the keeper into the top corner for the most hilarous goal of the night. 7-0 and we've matched Arsenal's (and Juventus') record!

88th minute: Benayoun is found free on the right hand side again and he has all the time in the world to deliver a sweet cross to Crouch who, right in front of goal, hits his header past the keeper to close the scoring and set a new Champs League record. 8-0!

Wonderful... Now if only Liverpool could play like this every week. Then I wouldn't have to waste 2 hours of my life each week watching them play. Hahaha.

Earlier this week I also came up with the 5 stages of mugging (or exam studying period). Will put that up in my next post! (Cos I know all you buggers who see that it's a football post will not bother to read it and will miss this fun bit of info.)

Okay! Gonna go watch Avatar: The Last Airbender now! I've just repaid my sleep debt... And now I'm accumulating it again. Hahaha.

Green Tea

Today was a (sort of) sabbath for me... Woke up REALLY late and tried to do some Heart Embryology... By the way, for those of you who don't check your mail but do visit my blog (okay that doesn't make any sense), this website is EXCELLENT for embryology stuff:

http://www.indiana.edu/~anat550/

Then you go to the link "human embryology animations". With the animations, I can now understand the formation of the heart very well, as well as the formation of the greater/lesser sac in GIT. Damn good la.

So after doing some heart embryology, it was time to go back to school (RI) to play street soccer =p okay rather ironic it should be called "astroturf soccer" but you get the idea.

I think I'm getting better with each game I'm playing, both in NUS and in RI twice a week... Almost a throwback to the days when I was playing soccer regularly. Didn't score any goals today (aiyah dammit Zeying!) but I did have a hand in several... I think I got the most assists in the match (or matches).

There was this new ang moh guy today (new being, he hasn't played with us before), I think his name is Leslie (at least that's what the back of his shirt said... It was a LIVERPOOL jersey... With the number 10. How cool is that man...). His shots are super sick... He will take outrageous shots with his left foot from any angle at any distance and the ball either JUST misses, or goes in. Haha... We all called him Dirk Kuyt.

Anyway after the first game (amongst ourselves) we then played against our juniors from RI. Wow the young players are getting better and better... After we went 3-0 up at first they soon drew level, then we had to end the game (before we lost). Haha! Nah... It was getting late already.

Seems like today isn't the day for green tea... I just wasn't fated for it today haha.

First, when I was walking out in the sweltering heat to the bus stop to go to RI, I decided to buy a bottle of "Heaven and Earth Jasmine Green Tea" at 7-11 =p... It's really good. Anyway, the queue at 7-11 was longer than usual (there were 2 guys who bought over $60 worth of beer!) and unnaturally, I decided to wait the queue to buy the drink. By the time I got out to the bus stop, I saw bus 52 flash past. AARGHHH

Then later in school, during a water break through our game, I went to buy a can of the same green tea at those new vending machines, you know the kind where you can see the drinks through the plastic and press A1, A2 all the way to E5 or something like that to choose your drink? Then after choosing the drink this slide-thingy moves to the level of the drink and the outermost drink drops onto it and the slide-thingy will bring it to the level of the hole where the drink drops to and you can take it out right? After I pressed A1 to get green tea, the slide-thingy moved all the way up, the drink dropped onto it, then the slide-thingy moved down toward the level of the hole. Then it continued to go down... All the way to the bottom. I was STARING at the green tea I bought at the bottom of the vending machine!!! AARGHHH

The funniest part was, after the games I went back to see the machine right, the drink was GONE! O_O

I hope the fella who got the free drink enjoyed it. Lol...

Okay I'm going off to Changi Airport to pick my sis up... She's coming back from Melbourne tonight. Signing off!

Repentance

After talking to a close friend, I've decided to start this month anew by deleting all the unhappy posts (and hopefully the memories) of the past few weeks! (Though like you said, I'm 3 days late)... Oh well! Better late than never.

I wasn't myself for the past few weeks... I was lost with no direction and no one I could confide in. I was going through a rough time, and everything I reacted to, I reacted to negatively (and shamefully). I know this isn't an excuse for my behaviour, and I'm sorry I caused any hurt or misunderstanding; it was never my intention to do so.

But now I see the light at the end of the tunnel... The rain is coming to an end... The cloud has a silver lining... And whatever cliches you can come up with.

A new beginning.

By Myself

By Myself by Linkin Park

What do I do to ignore them behind me?
Do I follow my instincts blindly?
Do I hide my pride from these bad dreams
And give into sad thoughts that are maddening?

Do I sit here and try to stand it?
Or do I try to catch them red-handed?
Do I trust some and get fooled by phoniness?
Or do I trust nobody and live in loneliness?

Because I can't hold on when I'm stretched so thin
I make the right moves but I'm lost within
I put on my daily facade but then
I just end up getting hurt again

By myself (myself!)
I ask why, but in my mind I find
I can't rely on myself (myself!)
I ask why, but in my mind I find
I can't rely on myself

I can't hold on
To what I want when I’m stretched so thin
It's all too much to take in
I can't hold on
To anything watching everything spin
With thoughts of failure sinking in

If I turn my back I'm defenseless
And to go blindly seems senseless
If I hide my pride and let it all go on
Then they'll take from me till everything is gone

If I let them go then I'll be outdone
But if I try to catch them I'll be outrun
If I'm killed by the questions like a cancer
Then I'll be buried in the silence of the answer

By myself (myself!)
I ask why, but in my mind I find
I can't rely on myself (myself!)
I ask why, but in my mind I find
I can't rely on myself

I can't hold on
To what I want when I’m stretched so thin
It's all too much to take in
I can't hold on
To anything watching everything spin
With thoughts of failure sinking in

How do you think
I've lost so much
I'm so afraid
I'm out of touch
How do you expect
I will know what to do
When all I know
Is what you tell me to

Don't you (know)
I can't tell you how to make it (go)
No matter what I do, how hard I (try)
I can't seem to convince myself (why)
I'm stuck on the outside

Don't you (know)
I can't tell you how to make it (go)
No matter what I do, how hard I (try)
I can't seem to convince myself (why)
I'm stuck on the outside

I can't hold on
To what I want when I'm stretched so thin
It's all to much to take in
I can't hold on
To anything watching everything spin
With thoughts of failure sinking in

I can't hold on
To what I want when I’m stretched so thin
It's all to much to take in
I can't hold on
To anything watching everything spin
With thoughts of failure sinking...
