Thought I would come online to blog since I'm waiting for my Avatar: The Last Airbender video to load =p... Okay don't kill me for sleeping so late! =\
Earlier this week Liverpool made history once again (like they have done many times before)... Winning by the biggest goal margin in Champions League History. Liverpool 8-0 Besiktas. For 90 minutes, Liverpool showed that they were capable of passing like true greats, of totally bamboozling defences without so much as revealing a crack in their armour. On that night, they truly gave meaning to the phrases "attack is the best form of defence", and "poetry in motion". As I'm still upset over the Liverpool website not replying me about volunteering to write match reviews for them (and also cos I'm too tired... it's almost 3 am), I will just give the poor chaps who missed the match a summary of the goals that happened. =)
GOALS
19th minute: Peter Crouch capitalizes on a ricochet off an opposing defender to go clean through on goal. His first shot is saved but his second is sweet and slides under the keeper's body.
32nd minute: Riise takes a very quick throw as Besiktas are still arguing with the referee that the throw really should be theirs; Voronin takes the ball down the left, looks up, and delivers a sweet cross to Benayoun. Benayoun takes one touch to control it, and the second is a sweet half volley into the bottom corner of the net. 2-0.
52nd minute: Riise tries a smashing drive that is too hot for the keeper to handle, and he spills the shot straight to Benayoun. Benayoun makes a difficult finish look ridiculously easy as he scores his second. 3-0.
56th minute: Gerrard's turn to attempt a smashing drive at goal, this time from a free kick. The keeper can't seem to get hold of this one again and once more Benayoun is on hand to tuck it home for his hat-trick. 4-0!
69th minute: Steven Gerrard launches this attack with a brilliant one-two with Voronin. Voronin, receiving the ball from Gerrard, does a Cryuff flick to supply Gerrard with the return ball. The skipper smashes his shot against a defender who deflects it into the goal. 5-0 and we want more!
78th minute: A wonderful cross pass reminiscent of Xabi Alonso, but coming from Javier Mascherano, reaches Benayoun, who is on the right in the penalty box. He squares his ball to Babel who, right in front of goal, does an audacious flick with his backheel to divert the ball past the keeper. Wonderful goal and we're 6-0 up!
81st minute: Crouch and a Besiktas defender both battle for but miss the aerial ball, and this bounces loose to another Besiktas defender who is looking to clear it. He didn't anticipate Babel's speed though and he's right next to the defender in a flash. Toroman (the defender) clears it into Babel's back and it loops over the keeper into the top corner for the most hilarous goal of the night. 7-0 and we've matched Arsenal's (and Juventus') record!
88th minute: Benayoun is found free on the right hand side again and he has all the time in the world to deliver a sweet cross to Crouch who, right in front of goal, hits his header past the keeper to close the scoring and set a new Champs League record. 8-0!
Wonderful... Now if only Liverpool could play like this every week. Then I wouldn't have to waste 2 hours of my life each week watching them play. Hahaha.
Earlier this week I also came up with the 5 stages of mugging (or exam studying period). Will put that up in my next post! (Cos I know all you buggers who see that it's a football post will not bother to read it and will miss this fun bit of info.)
Okay! Gonna go watch Avatar: The Last Airbender now! I've just repaid my sleep debt... And now I'm accumulating it again. Hahaha.
